What is the different between auctions and selling in the forum?

Iam from europe and iam a little confused.
There is a auctionhouse and this forum here to sell?

Where is the difference between this instances?

Well the difference should be this:
-auction: whoever has the highest bid wins
-sale: you name a price and see if a buyer comes up
In these forums noone really cares, you usually just set a reserve and once it's met you sell to the higher bidder.
There's also a website for auctions run by the same people here; it's organised in a different way, there are categories, but i can't tell you if you will have more luck selling here or there, never tried the new site. I'm a traditionalist

OK.
I read through a lot of sellposts here.
I read a lot of other gw auction boards, too.
Normaly there is a deadline and the last bid is obligatory. You must hand out the item for the price.
Here it seems anybody is shouting "Here is my item. Tell me your bid".
No startbid, no directbuy, no deadline
But its not obligatory. If the seller thinks not for this price he take no action.
Better he didnt answer IF the auction is over or IF he want sell his item anyway.

Very strange and curious to look through
